BLACK AND WHITE

Have you ever wondered why people are called 'Black' and 'White,' when no one is really black like onyx or white like snow? Here is why.
In 1607 the British founded Jamestown. At first there were no slaves, but as time went on and the situation evolved, more labour was necessary and gradually, people from Africa were imported to do the heavy work.
By 1619, they were put up for sale like farm animals. Some strenuously objected to being physically inspected, having their lips lifted to inspect the teeth, their sexual organs fondled, both men and women, and fought back.
These ones were taken apart to where the rest could see and hung upside down and whipped and whipped until blood flowed from their mouths and ears and nose and even the eyes. Eventually, of course, they died.
The British people got together and said .

What are we going to call these people? There's something wrong with them to accept this treatment.

One man said

They must not be human. We can't call them people. They have no souls.

Another man said:

Let's call ourselves 'light' and them 'dark' because we are lighter and they are from the 'Dark Continent ' and they are dark.

They all agreed that this was true, but didn't go far enough.
Then a man jumped up and said,

I've got it! What do we call evil and hidden and bad and dirty and disgusting deeds? We call them black.
And what do we call good and open and pure and clean deeds? We call them white, of course.

And all the men agreed.

So we will call these soulless creatures 'black' and we will call ourselves 'white.'

It was agreed and to this day, people of European descent are called 'white' although none are coloured white, and people of African descent are called 'black' although not a single one is coloured black.

Even the dictionaries have been written to reflect this decision of long ago.

This is why I refuse to let myself be called black, although I am very strong and proud of my heritage.
